Music doesn’t get any better than this – African music at it’s best by Miriam Makeba; the Grammy award winning South African singer who, in the 1960’s, became the first artist to popularize African music around the world. She was exiled from her home country for her anti-apartheid campaigning and moved to America where; she performed with legends such as Harry Belafonte and Paul Simon, was requested to sing at Madison Square Gardens to celebrate President John F. Kennedy’s birthday and sang at Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday party. TIME magazine called her “The most exciting new singing talent to appear in many years” and Newsweek magazine compared her voice to “the smoky tones of Ella Fitzgerald and the intimate warmth of Frank Sinatra”.
